Statement Pendant Handcrafted Medusa Pendant, with venetian glass - with or without opals. Handmade in New Hampshire, USA

One of the most recognized symbols of greek mythology Medusa was one of three sisters of Gorgons. She was the only mortal among them. Equally enchanting and dangerous, she was so beautiful that The God of the sea - Poseidon found her irresistible and tried to seduce her. She resisted his advances and he attacked her and raped her inside a temple for the goddess of Athena. Athena was furious but instead of punishing Poseidon, she punished Medusa - by turning her into a monster with snakes for hair and a gaze that turned all men to stone. (Jealousy is a horrible enemy). Medusa was eventually hunted down and beheaded by Perseus - but even in death her snake covered head was powerful and held the ability to kill anyone who dared look at it.

Many interpretations of Medusa’s story exist and these days, her story is often used as a powerful symbol of the strength of women, and the vengeance of women when they are violated and then silenced.

Medusa’s story is one of female strength and power - and her image is now used as a mark of protection against evil.

That story and my love of historic images of Medusa in art, led me to make these pendants. I let my muse take over and this was the result.

Wearing this necklace will grab attention - to wear it feels important, as if it has a voice. Does it speak to you?
